Cub Scout Ranks


Bobcat



Bobcat is the first rank EVERY NEW Scout must achieve before they can earn their Den Rank. The Den Ranks are: 1st grade or 7yrs old, Tiger Cubs; 2nd grade or 8yrs old, Wolf Cubs; 3rd grade or 9yrs old, Bear Cubs; 4th & 5th grade or 10-11yrs old Webelos.

Tiger




Any boy who is 7 years old or in first grade can join Cub Scouts as a Tiger. First, every Tiger Scout must earn the Bobcat Rank Badge. Then they can start earning their Tiger Beads that lead to the Tiger Rank Badge. The Tiger Cub motto is "Search, Discover and Share." The Tiger Cub year is a year in which the boys (and their adult partner) transition into the Cub Scout Program. Each Tiger joins with an adult partner and forms a team in which they do all Tiger activities together. The Tiger Den meets regularly (usually once a month) and takes a field trip or "go see it" once a month. They also do a family activity once a month that ties in with what they have been doing. Finally, once a month the Tiger Cub Den attends and participates in a Pack Meeting (A Pack is all the boys from all the different dens coming together). Rank advancements are not given at a Pack Meeting in which a parent or guardian are not present.

Wolves



Any boy who is 8 years old or in second grade can join Cub Scouts as a Wolf. The first thing any new Scout must do is earn the Bobcat Rank Badge-note if this was completed in an earlier Scout year it doesn't need to be completed again. Then the Wolf Cubs can start working on earning their 12 Achievements . If they earn all 12 Achievements the have earned the Wolf Rank Badge. He may also work on his 22 electives to earn gold and silver arrow points. The Wolf Den meets usually twice a month as a Den and participates in the monthly Pack meeting. In keeping with the Cub Scout's family-oriented principle, parents are encouraged to attend Den and Pack meetings. Rank advancements are not given at a Pack meeting in which a parent or guardian are not present.

Bears



Any boy who is 9 years old or in third grade can join Cub Scouts as a Bear. First any new Scout needs to earn the Bobcat Rank Badge-note if this was completed in an earlier Scout year it doesn't need to be completed again. Then the Bear Cubs can start working on completing 12 of the 24 Achievements in his Handbook. Once this is completed 12 Achievements he has earned the rank of Bear. He may also work on up to 24 Electives to earn gold and silver arrow points. The Bear Den usually meets twice a month as a Den and participates in the monthly Pack Meeting. In keeping with the Cub Scout's family-oriented principle parents are encouraged to attend Den and Pack meetings. Rank advancements are not given at a Pack Meeting in which a parent or guardian are not present.

Webelos



Any boy who is 10 -11 years old or in fourth or fifth grade can join Cub Scouts as a Webelos. First any new Scout needs to earn the Bobcat Rank Badge-note if this was completed in an earlier Scout year it doesn't need to be completed again. Webelos is a little different in the fact that this is a 1 & 1/2 yr program. The Webelos program is a transitional time as we are preparing the boys for Boy Scouts. Webelos meet weekly to complete 20 Activitiy Badges to earn their Rank. As they earn their Activity Badges they work toward the "Arrow of Light"(Cub Scouts highest honor)and earn compass points. The Webelos Den also attends and participates in the monthly Pack Meeting.In keepin with the Cub Scout's family-oriented principle parents are encouraged to attend Den and Pack Meetings. Rank advancements are not given at a Pack Meeting in which a parent or guardian are not present.
