The Religious Emblems Program

The Religious Emblems Program

God & Country: A Church Youth Program

The religious emblems program, which is approved for use by the national youth-serving agencies, is based on a curriculum designed by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and other Protestant and Independent Christian churches in conjunction with P.R.A.Y. (Programs of Religious Activities with Youth). Persons who complete the prescribed programs are authorized to wear awards and emblems on the official uniforms of the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., Camp Fire USA, and American Heritage Girls. All church youth, whether or not they belong to a Scouting group, who are in grades one through twelve are eligible to participate.

The religious emblems program, taught under the direction of the church congregation, is divided into four different programs based on grade level.  These grade levels roughly correspond to the different ranks in the scouting programs, but since God & Country is a church program, it goes strictly by grade level (not by rank). For descriptions of the four programs, please follow the following links:

God and Me

Niños y niñas de 1er a 3er grado.

The God and Me program (Grades 1-3) helps children learn about Jesus and tell their story of “God and Me” together, beginning with the creation story. Children are encouraged to develop a personal relationship with God and praise God. They learn of God’s love through Jesus. As they tell parallel stories of their own birth and the birth of Jesus, they will proclaim that Jesus was born to be their Savior. in this program, children are challenged to follow Jesus's example and become “good shepherds” to other persons.

God and Family

Niños y niñas de 4to y 5to grado.

The God and Family curriculum (Grades 4-5) is designed to help youth understand the importance of family and God’s role in a healthy family. God and Family is a creative program that helps youths and their families explore their faith together. Children read about different families in the Bible. To remember these lessons, children will compare families and “pizza.” The six steps for making pizza will give students a concrete, “hands-on” model on which to build their understanding of God’s love for their families. They will make a pizza as they study how families can grow together in God’s love, and they will choose “family projects” to be done with their family at home.

God and Church

Chicos y chicas de 6to a 8vo grado.

The God and Church program (Grades 6-8) leads young people on a faith journey with three parts: meeting Jesus, worshiping God, and witnessing and ministering for Christ. Participants create either a video or a photo album to share what they have learned on their faith journeys. Young people will have the opportunity to work with their pastor or other Christian adult as they study the church's structures and objectives and participate in service projects that will give them a better understanding of the mission of the church.

God and Life

Chicos y chicas de 9no a 12mo grado.

The God and Life curriculum (Grades 9-12) is the final program in the God and Country series. After being introduced to Jesus as their best friend (God and Me), learning how the family is to grow strong in God’s love (God and Family), and studying the church as the body of Christ (God and Church), students in the God and Life program understand their call to a life of discipleship. The God and Life curriculum focuses on the life of the Apostle Paul as recorded in Acts 9:1-31, an account of Paul's encountere with Christ and how he was changed forever.

Four Star Recipient

Four-Star Recipients are youth members who have earned all four levels of the God and Country series. Four-star recipients receive a certificate and letter of congratulations from P.R.A.Y. A special pin is available at additional cost.  Candidates must submit a special application form to P.R.A.Y. in order to be confirmed as “Four Star Recipients.”  P.R.A.Y. first verifies that candidates have earned all four levels of the God and Country program and then sends a letter and certificate of special recognition. The application form is available here. It must be printed, completed and then mailed to P.R.A.Y.

God & Country Counselor

The pastor or another adult such as a parent, Sunday school teacher, or other lay leader in the church serves as a God & Country counselor and gives assignments to the young people. It is the pastor who must approve the final work.

God & Country Mentor

Adult Mentor
Padres que se inscriben en el programa de Adultos Mentores donde el padre es un participante activo con el chico.  Provee al adulto una oportunidad adicional para servir de modelo de la fe cristiana y a ayudar al chico a hablar de su creencia en Dios.

Parents may choose to serve as Mentors and be involved in the God and Country program alongside their children. In this program, the parent becomes an active learning participant with his or her child and has lessons and projects to complete in a Mentor workbook. Then both the parent and child work on the student curriculum together. Both mentors and children work under the supervision of the pastor or counselor.

Adult Awards

God & Service Award

An outside party must nominate an adult to receive an award by submitting the required applications, letters of recommendation, and resume of activities.  Self and spouse nominations will not be accepted. The adult award package contains a medal that can be worn around the neck, a personalized color certificate suitable for framing and a matching God and Service lapel pin.

About “P.R.A.Y.”

Programs of Religious Activities with Youth (P.R.A.Y.) is a not-for-profit organization whose national board of directors includes representatives from Protestant and Independent Christian Churches and the national youth agencies.

The following is taken from P.R.A.Y.’s Vision Statement: “Young people are brought closer to Christ through dynamic programs that enable adults in their ministry with youth. Our programs and resources are offered through churches and youth agencies for them to work together for the benefit of youth.”

P.R.A.Y.'s mission statement is to "foster the Christian growth of children, youth, and families through churches and youth serving agencies." Everything that the P.R.A.Y. national board does is centered on the two parts of this mission statement: collaborations between churches and agencies, and the God and Country program.
