Troop 229 History

A HEARTY WELCOME TO TROOP 229. As a scout you will have many new experiences. In addition to the green and yellow of our uniform you will experience the challenges of the outdoors and the spirit of brotherhood that has kept our troop going for a long time.

Founded in 1959, our troop continues as a part of the Selden community. Previously sponsored by Saint Margaret's Church, as of January, 2007 we are sponsored by the Hibernian Hall in Selden. We continue to be part of the Benjamin Tallmadge District, Suffolk County Council. To make this troop an annual quality award troop the troop meets on Thursday evenings from 6:45 PM to 8:15 PM at North Coleman Road Elementary School in the cafeteria. Parents are not required to stay for the entire meeting, but should make sure at least two adults are present before leaving. The meeting is over by 8:15. Parents should come about ten minutes before that time to get the information on what is happening. Sometimes the school needs the cafeteria for other activities. On these occasions we meet at New Village Recreation Center on Wireless Road.

Four times a year we host a "Court of Honor". It is a ceremony where we invite parents, grandparents and siblings to witness the accomplishments of the scouts. In addition to receiving the recognition of awards earned, the boys put on skits for a fun evening. Refreshments are served afterwards. Families are asked to supply drinks and desserts to make this a truly festive occasion.
