Resident Camp
Visit Resident Camp Online for General Info, Camplife, Forms and more...
Resident Camp is a Council-sponsored, professionally staffed camping program offered during the summer months. Overnight camping sessions are offered with the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge of the outdoors in both one-week and two-week sessions. Resident Camp facilities include Camp Agnes Arnold, Camp Casa Mare, and Camp Misty Meadows.
Breathing fresh air, exploring new challenges, participating in fun activities and learning to work with girls from different places and varied backgrounds are all great reasons for attending resident camp.
At camp, girls can zip down a scenic path on a bicycle, maneuver a canoe around an island, rig a sailboat, SCUBA dive, swim, or ride a horse down a winding trail.
Resident camp is an experience that puts girls in the outdoors away from the noise and distractions of the city. Brownie, Junior, Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts are encouraged to experience the fun and adventure of summer resident camp.
For more information about resident camp, contact residentcamp@sjgs.org
Day and Twilight Camp
Day/Twilight camps occur during the summer months. Girls participate in a variety of activities during the day and return home in the afternoon or evening. Day camps typically start around 9 a.m. and twilight camps around 6:30 p.m.
Each day/twilight camp offers a wide variety of activities for girls to enjoy together. Typical offerings include practicing outdoor skills (fire building, cooking, or knot tying), making arts and crafts, singing songs, playing games, as well as stargazing, dancing, hiking, and playing sports. Girls may also earn try-its and badges.
For more information about day camp, contact daycamp@sjgs.org
Registration Deadlines
It is very important that registration deadlines are met for the following reasons:
- Supplies are purchased based on the number of registrations received by each camp’s deadline.
- Some camps require a minimum number of girls to register by the deadline or the camp may be cancelled.
- Some camps charge an additional fee for late registrations. If you cannot meet the deadline, please call the registrar or contact person to see if an exception can be made.
Registration Forms
These forms are in PDF format. They will open in a new browser window.
Carousel Camps
Carousel is a unique troop camping program where older host troops plan a special program around a unique theme for participating troops. Troops enjoy activities such as swimming, canoeing, archery, songs and games, crafts, hiking and more. Host troops receive a free weekend at camp, wonderful leadership and planning opportunities – all while having fun! Carousel is held at several GSSJC camps throughout the year and are usually offered to girls in grades 1-5.
Camps typically take place on weekends. Troops arrive Friday evening and depart by noon on Sunday. The cost of camp is $13 per person for girls and adults if registered two months prior to the event, or $15 per person for girls and adults if registered afterward. Register online or by using the Program Registration Form, and include event code 10-56-15-6235. The registration deadline is two weeks prior to the session date.
Remember, Carousel IS NOT a service unit weekend or event, resident camp or day camp. To sign up to be a host troop, contact Rebecca Tirrell
Troops are responsible for:
- A currently certified outdoor trained adult (please send in a copy of certification with registration)
- A current First Aider and a first aid kit (please send in a copy of certification with registration)
- Regular troop camping supplies
- Simple meals to be cooked in outdoor facilities
- Troop and personal camping equipment
- SWAPS
- Troop participation in the exciting Saturday activities
For more information about Summer Carousel Camps, contact Rebecca Tirrell, (713) 292-0353, rtirrell@sjgs.org
New and exciting Carousel sessions are always being added to the calendar. For more information on dates and themes, check the Council Information Network (CIN) and in future issues of The Golden Link.
Family Camping
Families camping must follow the same Girl Scout guidelines as troops/groups and events. A list of standard Girl Scout guidelines (appropriate fuels, rules for conduct, etc.) will be included in the confirmation packet. Adult family members and boys are allowed to sleep in the same unit as girls and female adults. Camp Whispering Pines is currently the only GSSJC property designated for family camping.
Troop Camping
Troops can spend the day or camp overnight at any of the Council’s 10 camps throughout the spring, fall and winter months. From primitive campsites to climate-controlled cabins, the facilities can meet a wide range of camping experience levels.
Troops can hike, study nature, cook outdoors, and try to find the Big Dipper in a star-filled sky. More specialized activities such as horseback riding, bicycling, ROPES course, sailing and canoeing are available at specific camps upon request and availability.
