This page is to help inform Leaders, Parents/Guardians and Scouts on the requirements for the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards.  It also provides additional information for troops who are looking for Service Project Ideas to do.

Bronze Award Information

 

Girl Scout Bronze Award Highest Award for Junior Girl Scouts     (4th and 5th Grades)

All of the requirements for the Bronze Award must be met before leaving Junior Girl Scouts. However, earning a Bronze Award is not a prerequisite for the Girl Scout Silver Award (for Girl Scouts 11-14) or the Girl Scout Gold Award (for Girl Scouts 14-17).

Leaders or advisors helping with the Bronze Award will decide if the girls have fulfilled the requirements and chosen an appropriate project. Girls are not required to have projects approved by their Girl Scout council or anyone other than a leader or the person helping with Girl Scout activities.

Silver Award Information

 

Girl Scout Silver Award Highest Award for Girls 11-14                Cadette Girl Scouts (Grades 6-8)

Silver Award Trainings
Silver Award Training is not mandatory.  It is highly recommended that Cadettes take the online Silver Award Training.  This will help familiarize the girls with requirements for earning the silver award  go to the link above.
 

The Silver Award Project
A girl must be 11 or going into the sixth grade to begin work on STEPS 1-4 of her Girl Scout Silver Award. She must be 12 or going into the seventh grade to start work on STEPS 5 and 6 of the Girl Scout Silver Award Project. She must complete STEPS 5 and 6 by the end of her eighth grade Girl Scout year that ends on September 30 of her ninth grade year.  Training is available to help girls and leaders get started.

Gold Award Trainings
Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts who wish to earn their Gold Award must complete Gold Award Training. The training is designed to familiarize girls with the requirements for earning the award and to help prepare them for identifying, developing, and acting on their project ideas.

The Gold Award Project

Gold Award Projects are approved and reviewed at the Council Level. Training is available to help girls and leaders get started.  Council staff and volunteers provide advice and support throughout the process.

Service Project Ideas


 
Community Service Project Ideas for all Girl Scout Levels

* Collecting Food for the Akron Food Pantry

* PJ Round Up- collecting pj's for the less fortunate

 * Collecting trash for the Wyoming County SPCA center located in the Eastern Hills Mall

* Cleaning up Russell Park

* Making Cards throughout the year for the Senior Center at the Newstead Fire Hall

* Locks of Love- donating at least 10" of hair to provide hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children across the US under the age of 18 suffering from long term medical hair loss.

* Make a Child Smile- Has been a source of support to children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses and their famlies.  Emotional support is provided by creating the opportunity for people to visit the MACS website and learn about the children and their illnesses.

* Make ornaments for Akron's Community Christmas Tree

* Mitten tree- collecting hats and mittens

* Collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House

* Coupons For Troops (collecting coupons for troops/families overseas)

* Collect gently used books for St. John's Church Book Pantry- which helps bring literacy to the Children of the Akron/Newstead Area
