Pine Wood Derby (guidance to building your car)

Hi

We are staring our "Pine Wood Derby" season, the rules and guidance with regard to the building of your car are included in the attachment.  However I want to point out that this is really a fun "Learning" exercise for which the cub should understand the use of various tools to build the car, this includes safety techniques, the design (making a plan) based on research through products and literature available at the Library and through the Internet, execution and the excitement of racing something they created.  Please use your judgement when building the car, parents involvement should be appropriate to the cub's ability.  So the younger the cubs, tiger the parent would have more involvement then let's say a webelos.

The Pine Wood Derby Race is just a component of the experience, cars can be built not just for speed but for realism, for creativity and just for fun.

So mark in your calendars the race is February 6th so please set aside some time over break for planning and the building as the race comes around real fast and you don't want to be working on a car the night before.  :)  (I know from experience).

Sibling and parent cars are welcome and will be included in the race in separate  heats.  Cars are available for $5, so please let me or you den leader know if wish to purchase a car.

Best,

Tom.
