Troop 240 - First United Methodist Church, Athens,

Boy Scout Troop 240, sponsored by First United Methodist Church of Athens, has a long and rich tradition of Scouting.  Troop 240 has been active in Athens and at FUMC for almost 65 years and has produced almost 70 Eagle Scouts during that time.

Currently, Troop 240 is home to over 20 Scouts participating in a wide and varied range of activities.  We participate annually in Summer Camp at Camp Comer Scout Reservation in Mentone, Alabama, various BSA Camporees and camping opportunities, Merit Badge and Rank Advancement courses, Troop campouts and activities along with many other projects. These young men are in various stages of advancement through Boy Scouts and share the goal of furthering the tradition on achieving the esteemed Eagle Scout award. Troop 240 proudly “Does a Good Turn” with the annual Hospice of Limestone County Chili Challenge, participates in the Veteran’s Day Parade and other community activities.
Scoutmasters are Allen Sandlin along with David McLin, David Toney, Joe McDonald,.  We have an active and involved parent base.

Troop meetings are held at the Beasley Center at the corner of Bryan & Marion Street at 7:00pm on Tuesday Nights.  The troop  meets every week.  We use our meeting to plan outings such as camping, fishing, hiking, and playing an active role in our community by doing service projects and participating in community events.
