GIRL SCOUTS

Why Girl Scouts?

Girl Scouts was founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low, who believed passionately that girls should be given the same opportunities as boys to develop physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Juliette was a true trailblazer, and her visionary leadership created a strong foundation for the organization we would become.

Environmental Stewardship – She purchased a camp 10 years before she purchased an office building.
Diversity and Inclusion -  Integrated troops existed forty years before the Civil Rights Act was passed.
Global Citizenship - The International Council of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts was formed in 1919, the same year as the League of Nations.
Educational Enrichment – As early as 1913, aeronautics and circuitry programming inspired girls to consider non-traditional careers.
Public Service - Young Girl Scouts volunteered in hospitals, grew vegetables, sold bonds, and collected peach pits for use in gas mask filters during World War I.

For more than 100 years Girl Scouts has been building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.  We are the premier leadership organization for girls, helping them discover their potential to change the world. Did you know that 69% of female US Senators were Girl Scouts? They’re not alone. About 80%of women executives and business owners have participated in Girl Scouts. And today, there are more than 50 miilion alumnae across the United States who developed their foundation for leadership in Girl Scouting.

Girl Scouts has designed age-appropriate programs that meet the needs of today’s girls. Girls may register individually or as members of that explore everything from camping to careers. The Girl Scout program is flexible and offers many ways to participate in Girl Scouting.
