Cub Scout Pack 190
Hello and welcome to Cub Scouts Pack 190. This is meant to be a brief informational guide for you about our pack. It is meant to be a supplement to the New Scout Parent Orientation packet you were given at registration. If you do not have this guide – please ask for one.
SCOUTING AS AN ORGANIZATION: Your son is now a member of Pack 190. We are charted to Nashville United Methodist Church. Our Charter Organization representative is Jason Kirchhofer. He also serves on the Pack Committee.
Pack 190 is part of the Wapehani District and Hoosier Trails Council, which includes Brown, Monroe, Morgan, Owen Counties. And of course, we're part of the national organization of the Boy Scouts of America.
Cub Scouts have 12 Core Values:
Citizenship: Contributing service and showing responsibility local, state, and national communities.

Cooperation: Being helpful and working together with others toward a common goal.
Courage: Being brave and doing what is right regardless of our fears, the difficulties, or the consequences.

Responsibility: Fulfilling our duty to God, country, other people, and ourselves.
PACK LEADERSHIP:Every pack is under the supervision of a pack committee, which consists of atleast three members (chair, secretary, and treasurer). Although packs can and do operate with a minimum of three committee members, experience has shown that a larger committee generally ensures a stronger, more stable pack. A larger committee is better able to perform all the required functions of a successful pack program. It is also a way of involving more pack families in meaningful service to the pack. By handling administrative and support tasks, the pack committee allows the Cubmaster, den leaders, and their assistants to focus on working directly with the Cub Scouts. All parents are invited to become a Committee member. Our pack committee meets on the 1st Monday of each month before the den meetings begin (approximately 5:00 - 6:00 pm) at Nashville United Methodist Church.
DEN MEETINGS: Den meetings are usually held weekly on Monday nights from 6:00-7:00 pm at Nashville United Methodist Church. We always meet in the basement to start. If there is no School, there is no Scouts.
Church is located at 36 South Jefferson rd., Nashville, In 47448 Church number is 812-988-4666. Sometimes, they may be longer, be on adifferent day/night, or may include a field trip to an off-site location. Your Den leader will keep you informed of your den’s specific schedule. These meetings are with boys who are in the same grade or same age as your son.During den meetings, your son will work on earning achievements toward his rank badge.
Please remember that all of the Cub Scout pack leaders are VOLUNTEERS and are parents just like you. They have dedicated their time to be trained and to plan activities for the den to meet their advancements. It is important to: 1. Have your son to the den meeting on time-by 6pm. 2. Offer to help the den leader when you can or when you are asked. 3. Encourage you son to pay attention and participate in the activities. Den leaders are NOT substitutes for parents when it comes to discipline. 4. If you have to leave your son at the den meeting, please make sure it is okay with the den leader and then be sure to return on time to pick him up at 7pm. Your den leader has places to go and kids that they have to put to bed too. Exception:Tiger Scouts MUST have a parent/guardian/adult with them at ALL TIMES-NO EXCEPTIONS.
PACK MEETINGS:Pack meetings are held monthly – the date and time varies depending on the activity. Please consult the Pack Calendar for these events. Pack meetings are for all of the dens (1st thru 5th graders) and their FAMILIES (yes – that’s parents/grandparents and siblings).Siblings are invited to participate in MOST activities. However, depending on the activity – there may a small fee for a sibling to participate (fees are for Shoot-a-ree). Pack meetings are meant to be a time for fun and recognition of achievements. Pack meetings are optional but STRONGLY encouraged as they help build our pack community. Unless otherwise noted – Scouts are expected to dress in their Class a Uniform shirts and neckerchiefs at all Pack meetings.
FEES & DUES:The dues you paid at registration go directly to supporting the District,Council and BSA. Annual BSA dues are $24 per boy. Boys Life magazine is $12 per year subscription-optional at registration. We do not collect Pack dues as our pack is funded by the annual popcorn sale in Sept-October. We have always done very well with this fundraiser and hope to continue to be successful so we do not have to charge for all of our events. The popcorn fundraiser helps us pay for your child’s advancement awards (patches and pins), pinewood derby car, and pack meeting activity costs for food and any activity fees (like pool rental for swimming).
CIRCUIT OF FUN:The Circuit of Fun events are Council supported activities that are available on a monthly basis and at a discount for Scouts and their families. Circuit of Fun events are optional and have an additional registration cost. We send out a flier and deadline for each event. All money is due upfront and by the deadline this year, no exceptions.
PARENTS ROLE:Teamwork divides the task and multiplies the success. On a weekly basis, your den leader or pack leaders need your help to keep the church facilities looking great. We want to be sure to leave things “better than when we arrived”. If we do not keep things clean, we may not be able to continue to use the church facilities.
Please consider being active in the Pack – we need help with all of different activities throughout the year. Look over the calendar and find an activity that you are interested in helping with and then let someone on the Pack Committee know. Pack Committee chair is Jenni Combest. 812-720-0618
We have a few positions that need filled by one or two people. We’re in need of a new Tiger leader. We’re always in need of grub masters and help at the C.Y.O.
SERVICE PROJECTS:The BSA strongly encourages scouts of all ages to be of service to their communities. We have several opportunities planned and welcome any new ideas for service projects. Our current service projects include: Keep Ogle Trail clean-Winter hike, Fall Fare at the Church, Scouting for Food drive (spring)and C.Y.O we have a two hour service project.
FAMILY CAMP AND PACK CAMPING: There are limited opportunities for Family camping with the Pack and District. When offered, these are to be for the scout and his parent/whole family.
Our first Cub Scout Fall Family Campout is held in September. All Cub Scouts can attend with a parent/guardian regardless if other members of their Pack are attending! We encourage all families to attend. Youth may NOT be dropped off for this event.
PACK CAMPING: See pack calendar for scheduled Family Pack Camping opportunities. There must be at least One BALOO trained leaders present for Pack camping events. We currently have 4 trained adults.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:We want scouting to be available to any youth that wants to participate. The Pack has additional scholarship funds available to cover registration costs. We will fund as many scouts as we can with the funds we have budgeted for this. If we utilize this assistance fund and within the year your child decides to dropout of scouting – we do ask that you return any items the pack purchased for your child so that we can then reallocate these resources to another family in need.(i.e. return shirt, neckerchief, slide and/or book).
