Welcome to TROOP 206 of Portland, Indiana

At TROOP 206 we deliver a "Boy Led Program" as envisioned by the originator of the Boy Scouts - Sir Robert Baden Powell. At the core of our very existence is the Mission Statement of the Boy Scouts of America.

"The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepaire young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law"

Troop 206 offers a values-based program with a code of conduct subscribed to by the Boy Scouts of America. The Scout Oath and Law help instill the values of good conduct and honesty. A boy who spends time in our troop will learn skills valuable for a lifetime. He will learn basic outdoor skills, self-reliance, and how to get along with others. Scouting will prepaire him to live a more productive and fulfilling life.

What does it mean when we say
"a boy-led program" ?

The BSA's definition is that "empowering boys to be leaders" is the core of Scouting. A Boy Scout Troop is a small democracy. With help from the appointed leaders, the boys are formed into Patrols. They plan the troops program and make it a reality. According to Lord Baden-Powel:

"The patrol method is not a way to operate a Boy Scout Troop, it is the only way! Unless the patrol method is in operation, you dont really have a Boy Scout Troop."

With the support of out valued leaders Troop 206 meets on the first and third Tuesdays at the Jay County Scout Facility Lodge on 450 South, Jay County Indiana.
Meetings start at 6.30 and finish at 8:30 pm.
