1959 - 2009

On March 18, 1959, the girls and leaders of Troop 133 went to the Xenia Library to do research for a badge. On their return, their car was hit by a train while crossing the railroad tracks on Factory Road (the site of the current bike trail). The collision took the lives of everyone in the car. The Girl Scouts lost two leaders: Mrs. Jeanette Randall and Mrs. Lucille White along with eight girl scouts, Connie Laprise, Patricia Lipinski, Cynthia-Jean Moorman, Anne North, Paulnetta Randall, Linda Ellen Ward, Sharon White and Anna Wilvert in this tragedy.

Girl Scouts of Beavercreek North Service Unit commemorated the 50th anniversary of this tragic event with a memorial service on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at the Beavercreek Community Park.

A community park and scholarship fund were established in honor of the Scouts who lost their lives.  Any graduating Girl Scout pursuing a 4 year college education is eligible for consideration.  Selection criteria are based upon years of service, minimum grade point average of B, and need for financial assistance.  To support this worthy cause with a donation, please Annette Poth, annettepoth@woh.rr.com
