It's Easier Than You Think!

It took me a while to figure this badge out.  It just seemed too broad.  But now I really love it.  In the future, I am planning to have each girl plan for a badge that they will do at the beginning of the year and check in on them as the year goes on.  I hope a lot more girls will get the badge that way.

Several groups of girls can easily get this badge:
1) Girls starting a new sport
2) Learning a new instrument
3) Girls in Enrichment (Gifted and Talented at school)

Getting Started:
1) What do you want to know?
For the easy groups, it is the instrument, sport or topic they are researching in school.

2) Learn - make a plan how you will learn this
What do you need to know?
Sports it would be the rules of the game and basic skills.
Instrument, care of instrument, scales, etc
Enrichment, they usually pick several research topics each year

3) Do - put your plan into action
Sports participate on the team and practice
Instrument learn how to play, participate in school concert
Enrichment, research the topic and do your project

4)Share - talk to your adult advisor about what your learned
Sports have the girl talk about the sport, rules, basics, could share with the troop and teach them some things
Instrument have the girl explain the basics of the instrument, how it works, basic music, maybe play something for the troop
Enrichment, they have to give a presentation to their class

5) Make Your Badge

Remember:
They can earn 1 badge each year.
Girls can work together.
Have fun and see what you can learn!

Badges Girls Have Done

Bicycles - Junior
This was the first badge I did with my daughter.  We did it in a day.  She was really not into the 'Make Your Own' until we did this one.  Immediate gratification helped her see the possibilities, now she loves it.  We picked Bicycles because she had been doing a lot with it all year.
She chose to learn bicycle safety and care.
We looked up rules for biking and discussed them.  We learned how to change a tire.  We decided to count the ice cream bike rides at Genesis as application of what we learned.
She made the badge.

Greek Myths - Junior
Sam chose this because she was doing a presentation at school and wanted a badge with a Pegasus (she is a Percy Jackson fan).
She researched all the major gods and goddesses, how they were related and what they did.
She created a Power Point presentation that she gave to her class.
Made the badge, and it is cool looking.

Cooking - Brownie
I did this with my niece one afternoon.  She wanted a cooking badge.  We talked and she wanted to make a cake.
We looked up what each ingredient contributes to how the cake turns out.  I am sure she does not remember the details, but she does know they each have a different purpose.
We applied our knowledge by making the cake.
She loved the badge we made

Archery - Junior
One of my scouts joined an archery team at her school.
I had her explain what she learned and the basics of safety and how to shoot.
I had her explain how she practiced and got better.
We ordered the badge.
