Welcome to Girl Scout Troop 1485

Building Young Women of Courage, Confidence and Character

I am so excited about starting another year with our girls.  I just wanted to share a few changes we have made in the troop policies.

Communication

Most of our communication is through Scoutlander. Please let Lisa know if you do not have computer access. We will do our very best to keep Scoutlander current. Please check your email and our website regularly to keep up with activities. We strive to keep our website current and complete. Contact Lisa Ryder if you have issues with the website.

We will also have announcements at the beginning of each meeting. Please feel free to come and sit in the first part of the meeting.  You are free to stay for any meeting.

Financials

The leadership of the troop has organized a few basic procedures to help the troop run more effectively.

The troop will be collecting $30 troop dues by September 10.

$15 registration must be paid before a Girl Scout may attend any meeting or Girl Scout event.

If a scout has paid for an event and chooses not to attend no refund will be given. Most of the events we attend have reduced rates for Girl Scouts and we have to purchase the tickets in advance. We have no way to get the money back.

Scouts that do not register for an event by the signup deadline will not be able to attend that event.

Uniforms

Formal Uniforms consist of tan bottoms (school uniform), white shirt and Girl Scout vests. Vests are to be worn on meeting days.

Informal Uniforms consist of troop t-shirt.

Closed toed shoes are to be worn on all outings and are a must for camping.

Parents will be informed about what kind of uniform they will need for the event they will be attending.

Awards

We will be working on some awards this coming year. The Cadettes will be working on the LIA award. This is a requirement for the Silver Award if your child is trying to earn the Silver. It is very important that she comes to meetings, both regular and extra planning meetings. No scout can start on Silver without the LIA. The girls can earn awards for community service. Please let me know if they do community service outside Girl Scouts because I can count their hours.

Adult Volunteers

We encourage as much parent involvement as possible. Girl Scout Council and service unit events sometimes limit the amount of adults we can take.

It is also not the policy of Girl Scouts to let non-registered adults be drivers on Girl Scout Events. All adults that work with the girls must be registered and have a volunteer application/criminal background check; this includes fathers. No unregistered siblings are allowed on campouts and boys cannot be registered. Fathers can be registered but cannot be counted as safety wise adults. Adults may not sleep in the same sleeping area as the scouts unless it is their child. Male volunteers must sleep in a separate area away from the girls. No adults may share bathroom facilities with scouts.

Thank you for supporting your daughter in Girl Scouting
