All Kinds of Information on Becoming a Scout

So, you think you want to be a Cub Scout, but don't even know where to begin to ask questions?!  We've all been there.

First a little introduction to how Scouting works.

Cub Scouts

Cub Scouts is a year-round program uniquely designed to meet the needs of young boys first through fifth grade or ages 7-10 and their families. The program offers fun and challenging activities that promote character development and physical fitness. Boys can begin as Tiger Cubs as they finish Kindergarten, and then move into the Wolf and Bear Cub Scout programs (second and third grade, or age 8 or 9), and Webelos Scouts (fourth and fifth grade, or age 10). They then transition into the Boy Scout Program.

In the Last Frontier Council, Cub Scouts and their families may look forward to Cub Scout Camping opportunities and many other community-centered District Activities. These service projects, games and camping activities guide boys through core values and give them a sense of personal achievement. Parents, leaders and friends play an active role in the program as they encourage boys to live the Cub Scout Motto “Do Your Best.”

When you're a Cub Scout you do all sorts of fun things like camping, building race cars and bird houses, playing sports, going on field trips, and learning about wild animals. While you're having fun, you earn badges and awards that show what you've learned.

Every Scout is a member of a pack — a large group of boys. The pack is divided into smaller groups called dens. All the Cub Scouts in a den are about the same age and live in the same neighborhood, and meet about once a week throughout the year. So, even if you're new to the den, chances are you know some of the kids in your group. And if you don't, you'll get to make new friends!

You can read more of this information on the Last Frontier Council website at lastfrontiercouncil.org.

We have a "Tiger Roundup" in the spring before school is out to recruit any new Tiger cubs that might want to go to summer day camp with us.  Then in the fall, we have a "Join Scout Night" where we invite parents to an informative meeting while we have current Cubs of all ages give your boys a taste of how much fun Scouting can be. Both these events are publicized in the school for about a week ahead of time, or you can always contact us through this website.

I would suggest the Last Frontier Council site, the US Scouting Project website, and myscouting.org.  Here you can set up an account and go through several training courses such as "This is Scouting", Specific courses on your Cub's level, and Youth Protection Training.
