Starting  May 2015 all Cub Scouts will be using the Scout oath,Law and Motto instead of the Cub Scout promise and Law of the Pack.

A boy's first step after registering as a Cub Scout, regardless of his age, is to pass the Bobcat requirements

They are as follows:

1. THE CUB SCOUT PROMISE - and its meaning.

"I .....(name).... promise to do my best
To do my duty to God and my country,
To help other people, and
To obey the Law of the Pack."

2. THE LAW OF THE PACK - and its meaning.

"The Cub Scout follows Akela.
The Cub Scout helps the pack go.
The pack helps the Cub Scout Grow.
The Cub Scout gives goodwill."

3. THE CUB SCOUT MOTTO -

 "Do Your Best."

4. THE MEANING OF THE WORD WEBELOS

 "WE 'll BE LOyal Scouts"

5. SHOW THE CUB SCOUT SIGN and tell what it means

• Make the sign with your right hand, first two fingers raised.
• Hold your arm straight up.
• The two raised fingers look like the sharp ears of the wolf listening to Akela, his leader.

6. GIVE THE CUB SCOUT SALUTE and tell what it means

• Salute with your right hand. Hold your first two fingers close together.
• Touch the tips to your cap. Touch your eyebrow if you are not wearing a cap.
• This is the way to show respect to your leaders.
• You salute the flag to show respect to our country.
• And you can greet another Cub Scout this way.

7. SHOW THE CUB SCOUT HANDSHAKE and tell what it means

When you shake hands with another Cub Scout,
place the first two fingers of your right hand
along the inside of his right wrist.

8. WITH YOUR PARENT OR GUARDIAN

The above items are the basic information that all Cub Scouts must learn, which is why every boy who enters into Cub Scouting must earn the Bobcat Badge. When a boy has learned these things, his parent approves his work and signs his book. He is then eligible to receive his Bobcat badge at a pack ceremony including his parent. He will then begin work on the achievements of the den that he qualifies for - which are as follows:

• First Grader=TIGER achievements then TIGER Electives

• Second Grader = WOLF achievements then WOLF Electives
• Third Grader = BEAR achievements then BEAR Electives
• Fourth Grader = 1st year WEBELOS achievements
• Fifth Grader = 2nd year WEBELOS achievements

Note that the Boy Scout Oath has traditionally been considered to have three promises. Those three promises are delineated by the semicolons in the Oath, which divide it into three clauses. The three promises of the Scout Oath are, therefore:

• Duty to God and country,
• Duty to other people, and
• Duty to self

DUTY TO GOD AND COUNTRY: Your family and religious leaders teach you to know and serve God. By following these teachings, you do your duty to God.

Men and women of the past worked to make America great, and many gave their lives for their country. By being a good family member and a good citizen, by working for your country's good and obeying its laws, you do your duty to your country. Obeying the Scout Law means living by its 12 points.

DUTY TO OTHER PEOPLE: Many people need help. A cheery smile and a helping hand make life easier for others. By doing a Good Turn daily and helping when you're needed, you prove yourself a Scout and do your part to make this a better world.

DUTY TO SELF: Keeping yourself physically strong means taking care of your body. Eat the right foods and build your strength. Staying mentally awake means learn all you can, be curious, and ask questions. Being morally straight means to live your life with honesty, to be clean in your speech and actions, and to be a person of strong character.

The Outdoor Code

As an American, I will do my best to -

• Be clean in my outdoor manners
• Be careful with fire
• Be considerate in the outdoors, and
• Be conservation minded.

Scout Sign	The Scout sign shows you are a Scout. Give it each time you recite the Scout Oath and Law. When a Scout or Scouter raises the Scout sign, all Scouts should make the sign, too, and come to silent attention.
Scout Salute	The Scout salute shows respect. Use it to salute the flag of the United States of America. You may also salute a Scout leader or another Scout. Give the Scout salute by forming the Scout sign with your right hand and then bringing that hand upward until your forefinger touches the brim of your hat or the arch of your right eyebrow. The palm of your hand should not show.
Scout Handshake	The Scout handshake is made with the hand nearest the heart and is offered as a token of friendship. Extend your left hand to another Scout and firmly grasp his left hand. Only use this handshake when both people are in uniform.
