The Advancement Trail



On the advancement trail, a Cub Scout progresses from rank to rank, learning new skills as he goes. Each of the ranks and awards in Cub Scouting has its own requirements. As you advance through the ranks, the requirements get more challenging, to match the new skills and abilities you learn as you get older.


BobCatBOBCAT ADVANCEMENT REQUIREMENTS

Regardless of what age or grade a Cub Scout is in, he must earn the Bobcat rank before earning any other rank. The Bobcat requirements focus on the fundamentals of Cub Scouting that every Cub Scout must know. The Bobcat requirements are:

  • Learn and say the Scout Oath, with help if needed.
  • Learn and say the Scout Law, with help if needed.
  • Show the Cub Scout sign. Tell what it means.
  • Show the Cub Scout handshake. Tell what it means.
  • Say the Cub Scout motto. Tell what it means.
  • Show the Cub Scout salute. Tell what it means.
  • With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide and earn the Cyber Chip award for your age.*

TigerTIGER ADVANCEMENT REQUIREMENTS

To begin his path to the Tiger rank, the Tigers (age 7) work toward the Tiger badge by completing a series of adventures. Complete each of the following Tiger required adventures with your den or family:

  1. Backyard Jungle
  2. Games Tigers Play
  3. My Family’s Duty to God
  4. Team Tiger
  5. Tiger Bites
  6. Tigers in the Wild
  7. Complete one Tiger elective adventure of your den or family’s choosing.
  8. With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide and earn the Cyber Chip award for your age.*

WolfWOLF ADVANCEMENT REQUIREMENTS

The Wolf rank is for boys who have finished first grade (or who are 8 years old). Wolf Scouts work toward the Wolf badge by completing a series of adventures. Complete each of the following Wolf required adventures with your den or family:

    1. Call of the Wild
    2. Council Fire
    3. Duty to God Footsteps
    4. d. Howling at the Moon
    5. Paws on the Path
    6. Running With the Pack
    7. Complete one Wolf elective adventure of your den or family’s choosing.
    8. With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide and earn the Cyber Chip award for your age.*

BearBEAR ADVANCEMENT REQUIREMENTS

The Bear rank is for boys who have finished second grade (of who are 9 years old). Bear Scouts work toward the Bear badge by completing a series of adventures. Complete each of the following Bear required adventures with your den or family:

  1. Bear Claws
  2. Bear Necessities
  3. Fellowship and Duty to God
  4. Fur, Feathers, and Ferns
  5. Grin and Bear It
  6. Paws for Action

Complete one Bear elective adventure of your den or family’s choosing.
With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide and earn the Cyber Chip award for your age.*

WebelosWEBELOS ADVANCEMENT REQUIREMENTS

The Webelos rank is for boys who have finished third grade (or reached aged 10). Webelos Scouts work toward the Webelos badge by completing a series of adventures.

Be an active member of your Webelos den for three months. (Being active means having good attendance, paying your den dues, and working on den projects.)
Complete each of the following Webelos required adventures with your den or family:
a. Cast Iron Chef
b. Duty to God and You
c. First Responder
d. Stronger, Faster, Higher
e. Webelos Walkabout
Complete two Webelos elective adventures of your den or family’s choosing.

SunARROW OF LIGHT ADVANCEMENT REQUIREMENTS

The Arrow of Light rank is for boys who have finished fourth grade. Webelos Scouts work toward the Arrow of Light badge by completing a series of adventures.

  1. Be active in your Webelos den for at least six months since completing the fourth grade or for at least six months since becoming 10 years old. (Being active means having good attendance, paying your den dues, and working on den projects.)
  2. Complete each of the following Arrow of Light required adventures with your den or family:
    1. Building a Better World
    2. Camper
    3. Duty to God in Action
    4. Scouting Adventure
  3. Complete three Webelos elective adventures of your den or family’s choosing.
