Camp Gear Checklist


This is a recommended list of items your scout will need for most Scout Camping trips.  Special events will obviously have different requirements. Please use common sense and your own judgement.

 

 

Mandatory

Optional

  • Pants – lightweight, avoid jeans (1-2 pair)
  • Shorts – (2-3 pairs)
  • T-shirts – (3-4) wicking shirts work well.
  • Troop 5 Class B shirt
  • Long sleeve light weight shirt – (1)
  • Light weight wind breaker
  • Sweat shirt
  • Short, shirt and/or pajamas to wear at night
  • Hiking Boots (broken in)
  • Pair of Sneakers. Not your new ones…
  • Rain Gear (pants & jacket or poncho)
  • Socks – avoid cotton if possible. Hiking specific socks (at least 2 pair per day)
  • Underwear (1 per day)
  • Tooth brush / toothpaste
  • Wash cloth, soap, deodorant.
  • Sunscreen and bug repellant
  • Scout Handbook, pencil and paper. Keep in zip lock bag to protect from weather.
  • Knife, fork and spoon
  • Personal Mess Kit with cup
  • Water Bottles (2) - fill before leaving home
  • Sleeping Bag
  • Foam pad/air mattress
  • Flashlight with extra batteries
  • Personal First Aid Kit
  • Toilet paper
  • Framed Backpack (duffle bag OK for some campouts) (ok for 50 mile hike)
  • Day Pack – NO string back packs. 
  • Tent and ground cloth – one tent to share between two scouts.  Tent buddies will be selected before the trip.
  • Troop 5 hat
  • Tent (Optional if there is a tent to share)
  • Camp chair or stool
  • Sunglasses
  • Walking stick
  • Camera
  • Binoculars
  • Book
  • Pocket knife (You must have your Totin' Chip card to bring a pocket knife)

Items to pack in your Day Pack from list above:

  • Rain Gear (pants & jacket or poncho)
  • Water Bottles – (2) filled
  • Socks – (2) pair
  • Personal First Aid Kit
  • Sunscreen and bug repellant
  • Have room to pack a lunch that will be given to you.  Bring your own lunch for Friday ONLY.

Optional items to take in your Day Pack/on the hike:

 

  • Camera
  • Binoculars
  • Walking Stick
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat

 

DO NOT BRING:  1. Electronic devices,including cell phones. 2. Fixedblade (sheath) knives.  Pocket knifeblades must be shorter than 3 inches.   3. Food or Candy – ALL food will beprovided.  4. Valuable or sentimental items. We have discovered that things have a way of being misplaced or broken on hikes/campouts.

Winter camping


This is a good example of what you should pack on weekend winter camping trips. It is very similar to the list for fall, spring, and summer campouts however it contains other items such as warm hats, gloves, etc.

  • T-shirts – (3-4) wicking shirts work well.
  • Troop 5 Class B shirt
  • Thermal underwear/long johns
  • Heavy winter coat
  • Sweat shirt
  • shirt and/or pajamas to wear an night
  • Winter hat
  • Gloves
  • Hiking Boots with warm socks or snow boots
  • Rain Gear (pants & jacket or poncho)
  • Socks – avoid cotton. Very warm hiking specific socks (at least 2 pair per day)
  • Underwear (1 per day)
  • Tooth brush / toothpaste
  • Wash cloth, soap, deodorant.
  • Sunscreen and bug repellant
  • Scout Handbook, pencil and paper. Keep in zip lock bag to protect from weather.

Summer Camp Packing List

  • Framed Backpack (duffle bag or foot locker that can fit below camp supplied cot)
  • Day Pack – NO string back packs.

  • Mosquito/bug net

  • Pocket knife (You must have your Totin' Chip card to bring a pocket knife.  If you no not have a Totin' Chip card you get in camp.  bring you knife but you must not use it until you have a card)
