2013 Summer Camps

For the summer of 2013, Troop 616 offers two summer camps for our scouts.

Camp Raymond - In The Cool Pines of Northern Arizona

We will be going to Camp Raymond, located on the northern edge of beautiful Sycamore Canyon between Flagstaff and Williams. From the east meadow, the morning view of the majestic San Francisco Peaks is glorious, and often times the peaks are still covered with snow. Scouts can watch elk, pronghorn antelope, and deer graze as each day begins. Then they can enjoy the 160+ acres of facilities which are surrounded by miles of high country pine forests and meadow-like parks.  Camp Raymond includes a swimming pool, handicraft ramada, full shooting sports (rifle/shotgun/archery), and a great C.O.P.E. course. Since the camp is nestled on the most northern tip of Sycamore Canyon, Camp Raymond offers some prime hiking opportunities including  trail hikes from 2 to 12 miles. They also have the Mountain Man program for older Scouts and some cool experiences like rock climbing, rappeling, and mountain biking.  You can check out the camp website for more information at http://www.grandcanyonbsa.org/openrosters/view_homepage.aspx?orgkey=1300.

Camp Fiesta Island - in the heart of Mission Bay Park, San Diego, California

For a more aquatic summer camp experience, our scouts will be heading to southern California. The scouts will have an opportunity to participate in a variety of activities including sailing, canoeing, rowing, kayaking, swimming and windsurfing.

Philmont Scout Ranch - A High Elevation Adventure!

For our scouts over 14, we offer a high adventure camp. This year we will be attending Philmont Scout Ranch in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of New Mexico from June 14-26. This is a Troop 616 tradition, although it is in such high demand that the Boy Scouts of America picks troops on a lottery basis and we don’t get to go every year. The 2012 crew of 8 Scouts and 2 adult advisors will be backpacking 63 miles following a challenging itinerary that includes mountain biking, gold mining and panning, blacksmithing, shooting black powder rifles, branding, climbing 12,000 foot Mount Baldy, and burro packing. For more information about the camp, visit the Philmont Scout Ranch (http://www.philmontscoutranch.org/). For more information about attending, contact Mr. Laney.
