The History of Troop 3
Scouting of the Past
Boy Scouts of America Troop 3 is the oldest continuously chartered troop in Arizona. The troop received the first charter on December 9, 1927. The troop met at Cartwright School with the first Scoutmaster, Oscar J. Rainey. The first troop roster consisted of 7 adults and 10 boys ranging in ages between 11 and 16.
Troop 3 met at Cartwright School for over 80 years before moving to Alleluia Lutheran Church.
Throughout the years of Scouting, Troop 3 has received several recognitions which include:
• National Honor Unit Recognitions - 1979, 1984, 1985
• National Camping Award - 1982, 1989, 1990, 1991
• “A Good Friend” Award from Pack 263 - 1985
• District Roundtable Recognition - 1988
• Recognition of 65 years of Scouting from the Governor of Arizona - 1992
The current leadership is doing their best to provide as much of the history of the troop as possible. However, many of Troop 3’s history exists with the previous Scouts and Adult Leaders of the troop.
