We are a part of something greater than ourselves

One of the ways that we develop girls of courage, confidence and character is through community involvement.  Girls of all age groups can participate in a variety of ways to give back to our community.

Below are a few of the community service projects we have been involved in:

Snack Packs for Kids - When the girls learned that some children their own age in our town do not have food over the weekend, they wanted to do something about it.  They talked with a County Council representative who explained that these children receive a backpack with snacks to provide them with something to eat between lunch on Friday and breakfast at school on Monday.  With the help of their leaders, the girls held a food drive specifically for the "snack pack" items.  They then packaged over 200 "snack packs" and had them delivered to Chester Middle School where the packs are stored each week.

Coat and Blanket Drive - The girls decided to hold a coat and blanket drive for older kids and adults because they don't get included in the "Angel Trees" at Christmas.  The girls collected over 200 coats and blankets that they donated to the Department of Social Services and Palmetto Village.

Teacher Appreciation - The Juniors (4th and 5th graders) wanted to show their teachers how much they appreciated their influence on their life as they strive to make the world a better place. The girls created posters to be displayed in the school and candy bags to be given to each of the teachers with a note thanking them for their influence.

Church Beautification - Led by the Daisies (K-5 and 1st grade), the girls weeded flower beds and planted a variety of flowers around the church as a way to say "thank you" for supporting our troop.

Wednesday Night Dinner "Give Back" - During Girl Scout week, the girls prepped, cooked and served the members and guests of the Chester A.R.P Church for Wednesday night dinner.  All age groups participated in this event from the youngest providing desserts they prepared at home with a parent to the oldest who prepared the hot dishes.  This opportunity helped the girls earn their cooking related badges as well as provided them with a way to give back to the church who has provided a home and support for the troop.
