Outdoor adventure is the promise made to boys when they join Scouting. Boys yearn for outdoor programs that stir their imagination and interest.

Troop 47 is committed to being a very
active outdoor troop.  Every summer the scouts attend summer camp at a variety of different locations including Camp Dittmer our Council Camp.  The boys spend a week earning merit badges, competing against other troops and  performing a service project for the camp.
Besides summer camp Troop 47 tries to spend one weekend every month of the year camping or participating in an outdoor activity.  They have hiked Mt. Marcy and Mt Joe in the Adirondacks over Columbus day weekend.  We have also used the long Columbus day weekend to go to Gettysburg.  This is one of their favorite camp outs and this past year they did a tour by horseback which was a thrill for them all!

A year ago we were chosen to participate in the West Point Jamboree held the first weekend in May every year.  This was also one of the boys favorite camp outs and they all look forward to going there again.  They hiked in with all their gear and supplies for the weekend and got to enjoy many different competitions setup by the cadets of West Point.  This is a difficult jamboree to get in to so Troop 47 was very fortunate to have been chosen to go.  The scouts look forward to being able to go again in the future.
Every year we participate in the Klondike in January and the scouts compete in different events including a sled race.  The scouts enjoy winter camping and make a great showing in all competitions.  The leaders get into the fun by competing in dutch oven cooking and give some stiff competition taking home first place.  Other camp outs throughout the year include cabin camping in March with hiking and advancement options.  They have gone to Spring Camporee's and caught, cleaned, and ate fish that they have caught.  They also enjoy kayaking, canoeing, hiking and biking events.
