Where do the troops meet?
Girl Scout troops meet in various places. It is the leader's responsibility to find a location for the troop to meet. Troops have been known to meet in schools, fire houses, churches, community centers and even at the homes of parents.
When do the troops meet?
Every Girl Scout Leader is a volunteer. Because he or she is giving of their time, troop meetings are held when it is convenient for the leader. Some troops meet after school, some in the evening, some on weekends. Meetings can be held weekly, biweekly or even monthly. Whatever a leader can fit into their schedule is when a troop would meet.
Is there a fee?
Every girl or adult who joins Girl Scouts is required to pay a $12.00 registration fee. This fee goes directly to GSUSA and covers the girl from Oct. 1 thru Sept. 30 of any Girl Scout year. Most troops do collect dues which helps them to run for the year. Dues is set by the leader. Most troops charge between $20 and $30 a year or 50 cent to one dollar per meeting.
Must I buy a uniform?
While we do not require the girls to wear uniforms all the time, a girl should have a tunic (daisies only), vest or sash to wear her pins and badges on. We require white shirts and tan or kakhi pants for special ceremonies and events along with vest, sash, or tunic. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.
What age must my daughter be to join?
Girls may join scouting as long as they are between the ages of 5 and 17 or are in kindergarten thru high school.
Are parents required to join?
While it is encouraged for a parent to join with their daughter it is not requried. When a parent registers with the troop then the parent can help out at meetings or help chaperone trips.
If I wanted to volunteer to be a leader, is there anything special I have to do?
All of our volunteers must submit to a background check and have references checked. They then must have their leader training before being given a troop.
Can I still volunteer even if I don't have children to join scouting?
