Troop Leader

Hey y'all!

My name is Melissa and I'm a born and raised Charlestonian!! I'm the troop leader for Girl Scout troop 739! But I'm not just the troop leader...I also help lead and guide our Junior Girl Scouts on their scouting adventures! I'm a former Girl Scout, myself (Brownie and Junior Scout), and I had my Rededication Ceremony in 2012, when my own daughter made the decision to join scouting! Of course, I jumped "head first", so to speak, into being an assistant leader for her troop and, later, the troop leader! It's been one crazy, fun-filled adventure for us!!

On the lighter side, I'm a stay at home mom who is a huge Disney Addict! Some people would say that my "addiction" is a little crazy, but I just think it makes it easier to shop for me! Haha!! I thank my parents for that one! They started my love for all things Disney about 30 years ago; although everyone laughed and said that I would never remember it! Boy, they were sure wrong!! I've managed to pass on my love for all things Disney to my daughter and even my husband!! (Although, I doubt he'd ever admit it!!)

Our family has just taken another huge plunge head first...into homeschooling!! So far, we love it!! We tried the whole "online schooling" thing but there was too much of a gap between what her former brick and mortar school was teaching and what the online school wanted her to be learning. So we decided to pull the plug on that and switch to a homeschool association and WE LOVE IT!! We decided to homeschool our daughter during the second semester of her 5th grade year because of her consistent health issues and I'm proud to say that her health has done a complete 180!! Not only is her health better but we control what she learns and are able to fill in all the gaps that were left when we tried the online schooling. And I'm happy to report that that is also coming along fantastically!! She loves the fact that she gets to learn things more in depth and, thanks to Girl Scouts, she hasn't lost that very important "socializing" factor in her life!

Although my Girl Scouting troop isn't "big", we do big things! This past December, we focused solely on giving back to the community and helped out by donating to an animal rescue and making goody bags for cancer patients going through chemo to personally donate at a local hospital. How amazing are these girls?!? I'm pretty sure I know some adults that wouldn't show the love and bravery that these girls have!! I love each of my girls, as if they were my own. They know that I'm there for them, all the time, no matter what. And my parents know that goes for them as well!! To say I'm proud of my troop is putting it lightly! They are like extended family to me!

I would wager to say that since you found my page, you are considering Girl Scouts! We would love to have you with us! And if our troop isn't "the one" for your family, that's okay...my feelings won't be hurt!! I would still be happy to help you and your family find that perfect fit in scouting! I never want a girl to not have the chance to experience ALL that Girl Scouting has to offer for them!! So if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to contact me!!

If I don't have the answer to your question, I will do my best to find that answer for you!!
Have a magical day and please let me know if you need anything!
