SUGGESTED PACKING LIST FOR SNOW / WINTER CAMPO


  1. Tent: for winter camping only, you may bring and use a personal tent only if it is a 4 season back packing style 1 - 2 person tent as defined by:
    • 3 poles
    • Low profile
    • Complete full fly coverage
    • Waterproofed and vented
    • Seams sealed
    • Properly erected with all guy lines staked out
    • Has to have a tent foot print or tarp in good condition to go underneath
    • Otherwise you use the troop tents
  2. In the Tent
    • Zero-degree rated sleeping bag, or a higher temp bag plus wool or fleece blankets
    • Water Proof Stuff Sack for Sleeping Bag
    • Closed cell seeping pad or thermarest pad and extra tarp, emergency blanket or regular blanket to put under your sleeping bag
    • A wool or acrylic fiber beanie or knit cap for sleeping
    • A small water bottle
    • A chocolate bar
    • Optional: An foil covered bubble wrap insulation pad cut to the size of your sleeping bag . This goes on top of our extra tarp and under your sleeping pad.
  3. Clothes: No cotton in any layer
    • Long underwear
    • Warm insulating mid layer like nylon or fleece pants
    • Warm long sleeved top
    • Knit cap (different from the sleeping one)
    • Water proof or waterproof breathable pants and jacket
    • Fleece jacket or thinsulate-type jacket
    • Clothes for sleeping that will not be worn during the day like more
    • Long underwear, sweat pants and sweat shirt (no cotton), a knit cap
    • Snow pants or snow overalls
    • Sun glasses or goggles
    • Sun screen
    • Lip balm
    • 3 or more pairs of gloves or mittens
    • Plastic bags to pack everything in and/or to place wet items in
    • Multiple pairs of underwear
    • Multiple pairs of socks that are wool or acrylic wicking (when your socks get wet you'll have dry ones to change into)
    • Sock liners
    • Snow boots or waterproof boots and extra pair of the above
    • Gaitors
    • An extra change of clothes and shoes to change into for the ride home or 'in case'
  4. Your back pack with a water proof cover!!!
  5. Mess Kit with utensils
  6. Drinking Cup
  7. Flashlight with fresh batteries
  8. Pocket Knife (Only if 'Totin Chit' has been earned) - No sheath knives allowed.
  9. Canteen or unbreakable water bottle
  10. Personal First Aid Kit - See Scout Handbook
  11. Toilet Kit to include: toothbrush and toothpaste, soap, comb, shampoo, deodorant, toilet paper in water proof zip-lock bag, wash cloth, glasses/contact care items, etc.
  12. Blizzard meal- non perishable food for emergencies packed with your name on it in a zip lock bag
  13. Optional: Snow shovel or snow sliding item

NOTE: Troop 2 does not allow any candles, butane lighters, non-folding knives, fireworks, radios/walkmans or computer games on camp outs. If it is not on the list to bring, ask before you bring it.

Troop equipment such as tents, tarps, lanterns, stoves, and cooking utensils are furnished by the troop.
