Creating a Childrens Learning Center

Girl Scout Cadette Troop 1508 is now working on creating a children's learning center at the North Laurel-Savage Multiservice Center. This center will include a lending library, games, and activities for children ages 1-15 whose parents are in counseling and for parents and children during supervised visitations. This will provide literacy and educational opportunities for kids who might not have access to these materials elsewhere.

Recently we held a book drive at Books-A-Million in Columbia.  Thank you for everyone who donated new/used books.  We now have over 300 books for the library!

Creating Walker Bags

We spent many hours working with an occupational therapist and visiting residents of a local nursing facility.  During our visits we would have the residents participate in crafts to help with their mobility.  We are currently learning to sew using a sewing machine to create walker bags for the residents.

Healthy Eating

A group of 4 Middle School girls met with a nutritionist at Mt. Washington Pediatric Center in Baltimore to discuss childhood obesity and what they can do to help educate the local community.  These girls created a healthy workshop for young kids in the local neighborhood, spoke with state delegates, created gathered healthy recipes and created a website, and provided some peer to peer information sheets for Mt. Washington patients and parents.

Fernal Cat

A Group of girls are working to help with the Fernal Cat issue in the area.  They have visited shelters and learned about colonies and programs available.  They will be creating flyers for a local shelter that Traps/Spay or Neuter and Release programs for the shelter to pass out to the community along with building some habitats and feeding stations for the area.
