"The Patch I Don't Need For Doing A Good Deed"

The purpose of this patch is to highlight on Cub Scout™ brag vests that you don’t need to get a patch for everything you do in Scouts. In fact, doing a good deed in-and-of-itself might just be the best reason to do a good deed! While we recognize the importance of acknowledging many of the things we do in Scouting® with patches and pins, our world currently seems to emphasize the symbol more than the substance. In a small way, this patch is intended to highlight this important fact, while at the same time serve as a gentle reminder to Scouts, Scout leaders, and Scout parents that when you do something to help others, the joy of serving is its own reward. This patch originated in 2010 during the Centennial Anniversary of “Scouting in America.” It is a fitting tribute, since Scouting actually came to America because many years ago, on a foggy London street, a boy did a Good Turn for which he accepted no reward. A portion of all patch sales goes to Cub Scout Pack 148 in Centerville, Ohio and BSA® Miami Valley Council – where the patch began.

Pack 148, located in Centerville Ohio, is chartered by the Cline Elementary Parent Teacher Organization. We typically have between 60 and 70 scouts; so as packs go, we are on the larger side!

Pack 148 is active year-round, and there is at least one major event for our scouts in every month:
January- Klondike, Ski Trip
February - Blue and Gold Banquet
March - Pinewood Derby and Scouting for Food!
April - Centerville Pack Challenge
May - Memorial Day Grave Decorating
June - Spring Pack Camp Out and Summer Day Camp
July - Marching in the Americana Festival
August - Resident Camp at Woodland Trails
September - Rocketry and Ice Cream Social
October - Fall Camping and the Corn Maze
November - Veterans Day
December - Pack Holiday Party and Caroling at the retirement center

In addition to the above Pack events, Pack 148 scouts participate in other trips within their Dens.  Each Den consists of 6-12 scouts of the same grade. Tiger scouts, being first graders, are the youngest. Second graders are Wolves, third graders are Bears, and fourth and fifth graders are Webelos. Pack 148 is lucky to have great scouts and great leaders, which results in a lot of fun at every event!

In addition to having fun, our scouts also serve the community by assisting the community through food drives for the less fortunate, local park clean ups, visiting at local retirement centers, participating in community events such as Memorial and Veterans' Day and other service projects.
