National Youth Leadership Training

NYLT - San Diego-Imperial Council

NYLT is an intense weeklong youth-oriented leadership training experience sponsored by the San Diego-Imperial Council. The course is held at Mataguay Scout Ranch. Our youth staff is highly qualified and capable of conducting the training using the National Youth Leadership Training course syllabus, as published by the Boy Scouts of America National Office.

All registered Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, or Venturers who would like to improve their leadership skills are invited to participate.

Boy Scouts must have completed Troop Leadership Training, be at least First Class rank and 13 years old.

Venturers must have completed Crew Officer Orientation and Venturing Leadership Skills Course/Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews (ILSC).

All participants must be between 13 and 20 years old by completion of course.

It is an exciting fun-filled week of
training for youth leaders in council troops/teams/crews.
The course models a month in the life of a scout unit with
normal weekly meetings occurring daily, leading up to an
outdoor experience (overnight outpost camp). The course
uses the team method and models a youth-led unit. Teams
are challenged early in the week to present to the course
staff and participants their “Quest for the Meaning of
Leadership.” Along the journey, teams will go through
the stages of team development, and Scouts will develop
and refine leadership skills. Each session focuses on key
knowledge and gives each Scout a toolbox of skills that
equips them with the “how” of leadership.
