Scouting Since 1937

.
Troop 21 has been chartered to St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Maplewood, NJ, since 1937.  Although we are sponsored by St. Joseph Church, we accept boys of all faiths.

We have held our meetings in the basement of the St. Joseph school building since our founding.  Currently, we meet every Wednesday from 7:15 - 9:00pm during the school year. We follow the local school district's calendar. *

We have had over 95 scouts earn the rank of Eagle Scout since our founding.

Summer camp usually takes us to the Adirondack Mountains region of New York State.  Our summer home is Camp Waubeeka, part of the Curtis S. Read Scout Reservation in Brant Lake, NY, about 25 minutes north of Lake George.  Waubeeka is a patrol-cooking camp.  Scouts cook most of their meals during our stay.

We go camping or backpacking about once a month. Our trips take us to different state parks or scout reservations in NJ, NY, and PA.  Camping venues are usually within a two-hours drive of the Maplewood area.

We go on high adventure trips every four years or so. In the past, we have hiked the Appalachian Trail in Maine, and completed treks at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico.

Troop 21 is a part of the Lenape Trail District within the Northern New Jersey Council.

* During the pandemic year of 2020-2021, we held our meetings outdoors in the St. Joseph Church parking lot, Maplewood Memorial Park, and South Mountain Reservation.  Instead of overnight camping trips, we had one hiking day trip per month. We continue to follow CDC recommended COVID safety guidelines during our meetings or activities.
