Welcome to Pack 22

Having fun and developing character for over 50 years!

Dear Scouting Families,

Welcome to Cub Scout Pack 22!  We are one of the oldest and largest packs in Manatee County.

Pack 22 has,for over 50 years, focused on having fun while learning camping, outdoorskills, citizenship and community service.

Here’s some information about Pack 22.

We offer many options.  Do everything or do none!

This is the opportunity to determine what you personally want out of the scouting program.

  • Camping monthly at Camp Flying Eagle, Rye Preserve or anther local site.
  • Community Service projects every other month or in conjunction with other activities.  We participate in the International Coastal Clean-up yearly as well as the holiday wreath-laying at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
  • Intra-Pack Competitions
    • Pinewood Derby, the famous Cub Scout tradition in which boys build a car from a block of wood and race them on our own wooden track.
    • Rain Gutter Regatta, similar to Pinewood Derby, except with wooden sailboats, propelled by lung power down a 10 foot section of rain gutter.
  • Blue & Gold Banquet is our premier awards ceremony in which Cub Scouts receive the badges of rank they have earned (Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos badges), older Webelos receive the Arrow of Light award, and “crossover” into a Boy Scout troop.
  • Pack Special Outings, field trips, occasionally offered for Dakin Dairy Farm, visiting a local fire station, etc.
  • Council Special Events:  As part of the Manatee District of Southwest Florida Council of Boy Scouts of America, Pack 22 also participates in special events, including day events like September’s “Friendship Hike, Halloween-themed “Haunted Hike”; overnight camp outs like Winterfest, spring Cub-O-Ree; and a week long Day Camp in the summer.

Pack Meetings and most Den meetings are held at Palma Sola Presbyterian Church, 6510 3rd Ave W in Bradenton, every Tuesday from 7:00 – 8:00 pm.

We meet every week in “dens” of Scouts of the same age group.  Den meetings allow boys to focus on games, crafts, projects and field trips that help the boys accomplish advancement (badges), while having fun and learning.

The FIRST Tuesday of the month, we all meet together in a Pack meeting to recognize Scout’' accomplishments and enjoy a special program, speaker, skits and songs.

There are expenses associated with Scouting.  We have ways to reduce the financial burden, including a Uniform Closet and library and “scholarships” for those in financial need.  In short, you can start scouting for about $85 per year.

All of the required annual costs are shown below:

  • National and Council registration fee:  $24 per year ($2 per month)
  • Insurance:  $1 per registration period (Jan - Dec)
  • Pack 22 dues: $60 per year ($5 per month)
  • Cub Scout Handbook approximately $13
  • Uniforms (new):  about $70 for shirt, required patches, cap, neckerchief and slide.  All other uniform purchases are optional. Uniform items (used) can be as little as $10 from our uniform closet, on-line re-sellers or thrift shops.

Costs determined by your participation:
  • Pinewood Derby or Rain Gutter Regatta kits: $5
  • Boys Life magazine: $12 (optional)
  • Pack Camp outs: $10 per person (for food)
  • Council-sponsored events have costs per person based on the event.

We hope you can join us for a great year of fun and adventure in Pack 22!

Please come to any of our meetings, visit us on-line at,or send us an email at to register or get more information.

Yours in Scouting,

Cubmaster, Pack 22
