Adult Training

 

BSA National Council is requiring all Registered Adults to complete the following minimum training based on their position:

 

  • Merit Badge Counselors and Parents attending an outing as a guest -- Youth Protection Training (YPT).
  • Troop Committee Members -- Youth Protection Training (YPT), New Leader Essentials (NLE), Health & Safety (HS), and the Troop Committee Challenge (TCC). Committee Members in supportive roles in the troop are encouraged to attend Boy Scout Leader Specific Training (BSLST) as well.
  • Direct Contact Leaders (Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters)-- Youth Protection Training (YPT), New Leader Essentials (NLE), Health & Safety (HS), Boy Scout Leader Specific Training (BSLST), and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (ITOLS).

The training for some of these courses is available at the BSA Online Learning Center at http://olc.scouting.org/,others take place at WORD Training Sessions

  • Youth Protection Training (YPT) Online --Needs to be renewed once every 2 years. (Also available as a part of a course below.)
  • Youth Protection Training (YPT) Course -- Needs to be renewed once every 3 years. (Available as part of a morning half day training which also includes New Leader Essentials, and Health & Safety Training.)
  • New Leader Essentials (NLE) Course -- Needs to be completed once per leader. (Available as part of a morning half day training which also includes Youth Protection and Health & Safety Training.) 
  • Health & Safety Training (HS) Course-- Needs to be renewed once every 2 years. (Available as part of a half day training which also includes Youth Protection and New Leader Essentials.) 
  • Troop Committee Challenge (TCC) Online --(This is also available as a course.)-- Needs to be completed once per leader.
  • Boy Scout Leader Specific Training (BSLST) Course -- Needs to be completed once per leader. 
  • Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (ITOLS) -- Needs to be completed once per leader.

While at the BSA Online Learning Center, http://olc.scouting.org/, you may also complete Boy Scout Leader Fast Start Training; and Safety Afloat and Safe Swim Defense Training (Required for Adults in Charge of water outings.). While at the Online Learning Center,take the time to visit the Supplemental Training modules, which include a Merit Badge Counselor Instructors Guide; Board of Review Training; Orientation for New Boy Scout Parents; Planning and Conducting a Safe Scout Outing; as well as other training.
