The cost of scouting

Ask us How Scouting can be Free!

So, what is the cost of scouting? Well from Pack to Pack this varies. The reason it varies is due to a lot of different factors like fundraising, number of scouts, Charter Organization and more.

Let's address the costs that are based on our Pack structure.

Registration Fee w/ Boy's Life: $46.00 (When you join the pack you will incur this fee. This is an administrative fee goes to the Scout Council to register your son, insure your son during a scouting event and pay for his yearly Boy's Life Magazine subscription.)

Yearly Recharter fees: $24.00(This is an administrative fee goes to the Scout Council to register your son, insure your son during a scouting event. This is what we pay to re-register to our Charter Organization with the Council)

Boys Life Magazine: $12.00

Pack Administrative fee: $10 per family

Monthly dues: Varies but usually around $4.00 per month (This fee is set by the Den Leader, some den's charge fees some do not. If your den charges a fee, feel free to ask where the money goes. Most of the time the money goes into buying supplies and offsetting any costs incurred for den activities)

Uniform cost new: $70  (This amount is based upon buying a new uniform from http://www.scoutstuff.org
including the cost of patches and required handbook. It does not include pants/shorts or socks. Most scouts wear blue pants or blue jeans. A lot of parents choose to buy a uniform that is a bit bigger with "room-to-grow" so they don't have to buy a new uniform every year. There are parts of the uniform that need to be replaced yearly as your scout advances in rank. These costs vary but are approximately $30 for a new hat, neckerchief and handbook)

Uniform cost used:Varies (Our Pack has a unform bank with low or no-cost options for uniforms. We utilize a in-kind system for payments. See the Uniform Bank tab for more information)

Camp: $185-$385/week (Varies due to which camp you are going to. There is also financial aid available called "Camperships". For more information about camp visit Here and Here.)

So what can you do to offset the cost of scouting? You can help fundraise. We offer many opportunities to participate in fundraisers that put a portion of the proceeds into your son's scout account. Every scout has a scout account and all money in that account can be used for scouting related purchases, like uniforms, books, camp, etc.
