Matt Evans - Committee Chair and Wolf Den Leader

Hi my name is Matt Evans and I am currently the committee chairman and wolf den leader. I was a cub scout growing up and continued into boy scouts through 7th grade. I, to this day, have very awesome memories about my experiences in scouts and want my kids to have the same memories to look back on later in life. Even beyond that, I was an Army Infantryman for 6 years and used some of my skills from scouts numerous times in the field that I would not have known otherwise. My favorite part of scouts is definitely the Pinewood Derby. I love to watch the kids use their imagination building the cars and designing them.

Sincerely,
Matt

Veronica Evans - Cubmaster

Hello guests! Thank you for visiting Pack 2's Cub Scouting web page.

My name is Veronica Evans and I am Pack 2's Cubmaster. This will be my second year being involved in Cub Scouts. My oldest son joined Pack 2 last year (2014-2015) as a Tiger Cub so I participated as a parent and volunteered whenever I could. I was asked to take on the Cubmaster role for this upcoming year and at first I was a little hesitant because I didn't know what being a "Cubmaster" even meant. Since then I have spent time attending training offered by the Mid-Iowa Council and researching online everything I need to know about having a successful scouting year that will be fun and exciting for the boys.

As a mom of two boys, I became passionate about scouting the more I learned what "scouting" means. I support the overall mission of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) which is "to help young people build character, learn citizenship, and develop personal fitness". I also enjoy scouting because Cub Scouting is a family program that involves parents and even other siblings in most activities. Without the support of the scout's family, our program cannot be successful.

We also wouldn't be able to put on a successful program without the great leadership team here on Pack 2 so if you haven't already, I urge you to take a look at the other leaders' bios to get to know Pack 2's leadership team.

Sincerely,
Veronica Evans

Jack Weber - Asst Cubmaster and Bear Den Leader

Hello, my name is Jack Weber. I am the leader of the Bear Den, and the Assistant Cubmaster for Pack 2. I also coach soccer for the Altoona Youth Soccer Association (AYSA). My son and I have been part of Pack 2 for the last 3 years.

As a kid, I was not involved in Scouting. I had a few friends that made it all the way to Eagle Scout. Things that they learned amazed me, and to this day their Scouting experience have helped them out many times in their lives.

We do a lot of different outings each year. My favorite so far was the Fall Scout Days. Last year they held it at Camp Mitigwa. This is something they do every year. There are so many activities to enjoy. BB gun shooting, archery, sling shots, and a variety of different physical activities. You even get a badge for attending. We all had a blast going there last October. The only downfall was that it was a one day outing. We could have stayed and played for days.

Cubscouts is a great thing to be a part of. It teaches our boys life lessons they can carry with them. It will help prepare them to deal with many life experiences, and a variety of challenges. This is why I am passionate about Scouting.

Shane Gee - Webelos Den Leader

Hello, my name is Shane Gee. I am the Webelos Leader. My oldest son started in Scouts when he was in first grade. I was a part of the pack committee. My second oldest son started Scouts when he was starting 1st grade. I started on the committee, and decided to become a leader last year. We have been a part of Pack 2 for three years now, and a part of Cubscouts for 8 years.

One of my favorite memories so far was going fishing. We have a grandparent that lives on a Lake. He offered to rent the clubhouse for us in order to go fishing. It was a good thing too. All week leading up to our fishing event was beautiful. Come the day of the event, it was really cold and rainy. He offered to turn the heat on in the clubhouse for us to warm up. The funny thing is that only the parents were up there warming up. All of the Scouts were troopers. They sat out there and fished for 3 hours. We didn’t catch anything, but the boys had a blast. By the end of the event, most of the boys were able to bait their own hooks. Half of them were able to rig up their own line.

What makes me passionate about scouts is helping the boys learn new things. There are too many children that will never get to experience things that they learn in Scouts. Things like how to tie a fisherman’s knot, and bait their own hook.  I have friends my age that don’t know how to do it. Scouts will teach our boys survival skills that they may need in the future.
