In Cub Scouts, there are essentially 4 types of Insignia: 1. Patches you purchase with your uniform:These are intended to go on your uniform shirt, including the Unit Numerals, the Council Shoulder Patch, and the World Crest Emblem 2. Earned Awards (Patches & Pins) that are intended to go on your uniform shirt: These include the Rank Badges (Tiger, Bear, Wolf, & Webelos Badge), Outdoor Activity Award & Pins, Recruiter Strip, Founder Emblem, Summertime Pack Pin, Attendence Bar, Service Stars, Messengers of Peace Ring, Emergency Preparedness Pin, Arrow Points, etc. 3. *Earned Awards (Patches & Pins) that can notbe permanently attached to your uniform shirt:These include Temporary Patches! If you want to wear these, they may be temporarily hooked on the button of your uniform shirt, or they may be sewn to your red vest. These also include Day Camp Patches, Fundraiser Patches, Academic & Sports Program Pins, Fun with the Family Patches & Pins, Pinewood Derby Patches, Raingutter Regatta Patches, etc. There is no official Scouting guide for placing patches and pins on your red vest--they may be placed anywhere you would like! 4. Belt Loops: These are earned through participation in the Academics & Sports Program, and may be worn on the Cub Scout Blue Belt as part of the Cub Scout uniform. It is very important to place insignia in the appropriate locations on your uniform!  Please see the guides below for Patch and Pin placement on your uniform shirt.  *If you receive a pin or patch that does not appear on the insignia placement guides on this page, then it should be placed on the red vest.

There are several parts of the uniform available to purchase, but the awards will all go on the shirt, belt, or red vest. Please ask the attendant there to help you locate all of the different uniform parts, and also to get all of the patches required for the shirt, including the pack numeral patches “682”.
