Troop History & Philosophy

Troop 164 was founded in 1997 by Larry Hall, Tim Witt, and Rob Kirby.  Our mission is to provide our Scouts with an adventure-focused experience.  We embark on a biannual high adventure trip to places including Yosemite, Rocky Mountain National Park, the Florida Keys, and Alaska.  We eagerly compete in the annual district Klondike Derby and have frequently been winners of the district First Aid meet.  Our program also includes several campouts during the year, an annual weeklong trip to Camp Makajawan in Wisconsin, a luge trip, a climbing trip, and broomball.

Our troop is well suited for boys engaged in multiple activities.  Many of our Scouts are participate in varsity athletics, band or other activities.  We provide many opportunities for boys to earn advancements and merit badges and to serve in leadership roles, but we enable boys to advance at their own pace.  We currently have two highly experienced uniformed leaders and strong parent involvment through our troop committee.  We are very proud of the fact that our troop has produced 8 Eagle Scouts within the last 3 years!
