Pack 50 Outdoor Activity Mission & Vision

Cub Scout camping is fun and exciting! We all know Boy Scouts go camping, but spending time outdoors is just as much a part of the Cub Scout program. These camping activities help pull us together as a Pack and are a foundational element of the Scouting experience that keep our Scouts engaged and interested in staying with the program longer-term.

In the past, our Pack has had very low turnout (10% or less) for both Pack-sponsored and Council-sponsored camping events.  Moving forward, Pack Leadership's mission is to… (1) COMMUNICATE more often about camping opportunities so parents are aware of upcoming events and can plan accordingly; (2) ENCOURAGE more families to get involved by eliminating potential barriers and offering incentives to get non-campers out for a “trial run”; and (3) SET REASONABLE PARTICIPATION GROWTH LEVELS for our Pack and work on achieving those levels this year and in subsequent years.

2015-2016 Camping Dates and Locations

The following provides a summary of the camping activities currently planned for Pack 50 for the 2015-2016 year.  These include both Pack-sponsored activities as well as Council-sponsored activities.  Date and locations are still to be determined.  As soon as we have updates, that information will be communicated out.

Pack 50 Sponsored Campouts
Fall Campout

Peterloon Campout (Webelos II with Boy Scout Troop 55)

Summer Campout

     DATE: August TBD; LOCATION: TBD

Dan Beard Council Sponsored Summer Camps
For any of the summer camps below, there are multiple dates/locations from which to choose.  Many camps are customized at the Den Level so Den will decide the camp(s) most appropriate to attend. The full listing of camps can be found on the Dan Beard Council website (www.danbeard.org).

Cub Scout Adventures Camps
DATE: Varies; LOCATION: Cub World (Loveland); TIME: Varies

Twilight Camp
DATE: TBD; LOCATION: TBD; TIME: 5:00-9:30pm

Day Camp
DATE: TBD: LOCATION: TBD; TIME: 8:30-4:15

*For Day Camp, we will need to have parent volunteers help us maintain a 1 adult to every 5 Scouts ratio for our group.  As we get closer and know who will be going, we will coordinate something so parents can tag team this responsibility and no one parent has to commit to the entire week or day (because those can be long days).

Other Dan Beard Council Sponsored Camps

Fall Cub-O-Ree
DATE: October 3rd and 4th; LOCATION: Cub World (Loveland); TIME: 6:00pm-10:00am

Camping Participation Goals for Pack 50

For our experienced campers as well as those with limited or no experience, there are several levels of involvement when it comes to camping with the Pack.

Level 1 – All-in
Experienced campers with gear who are comfortable in a “roughing it” situation.

Level 2 – Willing to give it a go, but need a tent

Less experienced campers (may have camped in the past OR have no experience), willing to do a “trial run”, but don't currently have a tent.

Level 3 – Not quite ready, but willing to put our “toe in the water”

Have interest in camping but unsure of what to expect OR may have a younger Scout uncomfortable with the idea of an overnighter.

Our goal is encourage all families to participate at the level where they are most comfortable. Below are some additional thoughts to help you decide on the level of involvement that is right for you and your Scout…

LOANER TENTS

If you do not have a tent, the Boy Scouts (Troop 55) have tents they would willing to loan to us for campouts if there are families who don't have a tent at this time.  Other Pack members may also have an extra tent they would loan to interested families.

NO OVERNIGHT REQUIRED

If you've not camped, have limited experience, or have a younger Scout who may not be ready for the overnight portion of a campout, we invite you and your Scout to join us at our Pack campouts for our activities, dinner, and campfire time.  You could then sleep at home and rejoin us in the morning for breakfast. This will give your Scout exposure to what a campout is like and the fun that is had (without the sleepover component) so that at the next campout they might be willing to try an overnighter.

Our overall goal is to increase camping participation over time for Pack 50.  Outlined below are our targets for the next several years.
