Overnight on the Battleship New Jersey

Spend a night on the legendary Battleship New Jersey, a floating museum on the Camden Waterfront across from Center City Philadelphia. From the moment you walk up the gangway, you'll be greeted with a breathtaking display of the battleship's size- nearly three football fields long and eleven stories high.
Enter the ship's legendary 16-inch gun turrets. Visit the Combat Engagement Center, and participate in a simulated launch of a Tomahawk missile. See the Captain's and Admiral's cabins and the Officer's Wardroom while you climb up and down the ship's original ladders and companionways.
Learn about the role the Battleship New Jersey, the most decorated battleship in US Naval history played in World War ll, Korea, Vietnam and the Persian Gulf.
Come aboard and:
Stow your gear in a locker — the same lockers that held sailor's personal belongings when at sea.
Sleep in bunks- just like enlisted sailors.
"Chow down" in the Crew's Mess.
Even purchase a personalized "Dog Tag"!
The cost of encampment is $52.95 regardless of age.  Campers must be at least 6 years old.
Boarding time is between 1600 – 1800 (4:00 to 6:30)
Camper must bring a sleeping bag or a blanket, sheet and a pillow.

Rain Gutter Regatta

The Pack 355 Raingutter Regatta is a race of sailboats made out of the "soap that floats" -- Ivory.  Shaped bars of soap are "sailed" down a water-filled raingutter, powered by a Cub Scout blowing air through a drinking straw.  You really have to see it to believe it!

Pine Wood Derby

The Pinewood Derby is one of the most popular events in Cub Scouting. Every year more than a million boys and parents team up to carve, decorate, weigh, adjust, fret over, and finally race a Pinewood Derby car. The first Pinewood Derby was held in 1953 by Cub Scout Pack 280C of Manhattan Beach, California, and as of 1991 (Ref. 1992 BSA Retail Catalog) more than 81 million Pinewood Derby model car kits have been sold. Wow!!

The purpose of the Pinewood Derby is to help the Cub Scout build a team relationship with their parent or helper, experience the sense of accomplishment and the excitement of competition, learn Win/Lose good sportsmanship, and to have fun. The model cars are made of wood to specified dimensions, created, carved, assembled, and decorated by Cub Scouts under the guidance of the parents or helpers. The cars are gravity powered and run down a special track.

Program Length and Availability
Scout overnights generally begin at 4:00 pm and end at 4:00 pm the next day. Stay as short or long as you like in that time. Programs are tailored to your schedule. The Scout Overnight Program is available year-round, but weekends in the months of April, May, October and November are very popular. Contact us as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment!

Group Size
We require a minimum of 25 participants for overnnight programs.  Call for special arrangements for weekday camping during the Summer or Spring Break.  Day Trips can be scheduled for groups of 20 or more.

Housing
Your troop can stay in any of the designated restored historic buildings (Enlisted Barracks, the Casemates or the Officers Quarters), but the size of the troop will be a factor due to the limited size of these buildings. Most buildings are heated and air conditioned (except the Casemates) and many have working fireplaces in them (except the Officer Quarters.) Alternately, you may pitch a tent and sleep under the stars on the Parade Ground, up on the Parapet or in the picnic area.  Bathroom facilities for boys and girls are located inside the fort (no showers)

Food
Your troop is responsible for providing your own food, unless you would like us to prepare your breakfast ($6 per person). We allow cooking over open fire pits (dug by your group and returned to their original condition) You are responsible for the safety of the scouts at all times. A waiver/release will be provided upon your arrival.

Fees
$25 per person, per night.  A non-refundable deposit of $50 is required to reserve your space.  We accept cash, credit cards, money orders and checks (Payable to “Fort Mifflin on the Delaware”)
