Knots

This is a great website/resource for tying knots

The basic knots that a Cub Scout should know are the Square knot, also called the Joining knot, the Double Half-Hitch and the Bowline.

Another rope technique a Cub Scout should learn is called whipping a rope.  This is a method of ensuring the rope end does not fray.  A simple way to do this is to wrap some tape around the end of the rope, usually electrical tape or packaging tape work the best.  For synthetic ropes made primarly of nylon or polyester a rope end may be "fused" by carefully melting the end over with a flame.  But the best way is the learn the whip method using a smaller string to bind the end of the rope together.  This works on all types of ropes.

Lashings are knots and wraps that are used to join pieces of wood in various ways to make strong constructions such as chairs, tables, bridge supports, etc.
