Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Den?
A Den is a group of boys in the same grade or age group.  There are five types of dens:
  • Tiger
  • Wolf
  • Bear
  • Webelo I
  • Webelo II

What are Den Meetings?

Den Meetings are a time for learning new things and having fun.  Dens are led by a team of adult volunteers - the den leader and assistant den leader (s).  Den leaders are usually adult family members of boys in the den.

What is a Pack?

A Pack is the combination of all five types of Dens.  It provides a structure which allows scouts to experience a graduated program.

How often do Cub Scouts meet?

Den meetings occur on Friday after school @ MDS, unless otherwise specified by your Den Leader.

Pack Meetings/Activities are held every two months as specified on the Pack Calendar.  Boys are expected to wear their Uniforms to Pack Meetings.  Because these meetings recognize the accomplishments of our scouts, parents are expected to stay for Pack Meetings.

What do Scouts do at these meetings?

Den Meetings are about learning new things, having fun and working on projects and accomplishments to be presented at the Pack Meetings.

Pack Meetings are a time to recognize the scouts for their accomplishments during the month and to have fun with the entire family! We also meet to celebrate a fun event, such as the Rain Gutter Regatta, Pinewood Derby, Christmas Potluck or End Of Year Award Celebration.

What does Cub Scouting offer my son?

Cub Scouting offers fun and challenging activities that promote character development and physical fitness. Service projects, ceremonies, games, and other activities guide boys through the core values and give them a sense of personal achievement. Through positive peer group interaction and parental guidance, boys also learn honesty, bravery, and respect.

How does participation in Cub Scouting affect participation other activities?

The Cub Scout program is designed to compliment many other extracurricular activities. Typical time commitment is two Den meetings and one Pack meeting per month. Boys who participate in organized sports like soccer, baseball, basketball, swimming, gymnastics, etc, or academic-based extracurricular activities like music, art, science etc., can be recognized for these activities though Cub Scout belt loops and pins which are worn on their uniform.

Do Scouts go on any trips?

Every so often the den meeting will involve some type of mini field trip activity. These activities range from hikes, trips to different points of interest.  Family members are to attend these activitites.
