2015 Pinewood Derby

The Pinewood Derby is on Saturday, April 18 at Madonna Del Sasso School, 20 Santa Teresa Way. We are having this event along with Pack 13 from Mission Park and Pack 97 from Roosevelt Elementary School.  We will also have races for siblings and parents in case they would like to participate in the action, too!

Please pay close attention to the rules below for the construction of your car. Check-in time is from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM.  Races start at 1:00 PM.  If you have any questions, please let us know.

See you all at the race!

Check-in:  All cars must be checked in between 10:30 AM and 12:00 PM.  Once the car has passed inspection and checked in, the boys will no longer be allowed to touch their cars until the race is over.

Judging:  Judging will take place between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM.  Boys, parents and siblings are not allowed in the pit area at this time.  There will be various judging categories including best design, best workmanship, most artistic, among others.

Race:  The races will begin at 1:00 PM.   Each car will race at least four times—once in each lane.  Each Den will have a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner.  The top finishers in each Den will race for the overall pack championship.

Cub Scouts should be in uniform. Shorts are ok.

You must notify your Pack 212 leader that you want to participate and your name should appear in the registration table below. This is needed to provide the list of Pack 212 participants to the multi-pack organizers a week before the event.

Each car MUST have a NUMBER. Pack 13 has a computerized track. A computer keeps track of the finishing positions and times for each heat. The car number allows us to match the car with the computer information.

PLEASE HAVE THE NUMBER ASSIGNED TO YOU BELOW DISPLAYED ON YOUR CAR (EITHER WITH STICKERS OR PAINTED/MARKED ON THE CAR).

Car Construction Rules:  The rules for our pack race are those outlined in the Official Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Kit (No. 17006).  Please adhere to these rules for the construction of your car.

CAR SPECIFICATIONS:
Width – 2 ¾” Length – 7” Weight – Not over 5 ounces
Width between wheels 1 ¾”
Bottom clearance between car and track – 3/8”

In addition to the official rules included with the kit, please note the following:

1. No modification of the kit wheels is allowed. Painting and light sanding
with graphite lubrication where desired is ok. Do not add or remove
weight or change the overall diameter of the wheel.

2. The car number assigned to you  must be clearly shown on the car. This is to help facilitate the running of the race. You may put the number on the bottom of the car in case a big flashy number is not part of your design, but please make it so that it is clear and easy to read.

3. No part of the car is allowed to extend beyond the starting gate when
positioned at the start of the race.

4. The car must have been made during the current year.
