What Is Cub Scouting?

Cub Scouting is a year-round program uniquely designed to meet the needs of young boys and their parents. The program offers fun and challenging activities that promote character development and physical fitness. Service projects, ceremonies, games, and other activities guide boys through the core values and give them a sense of personal achievement. Through positive peer group interaction and parental guidance, boys also learn honesty, bravery, and respect. Family involvement is an essential part of Cub Scouting, and parents are encouraged to play an active role in the program. Through interaction between parents, leaders, and friends, boys learn citizenship, compassion, and courage. This family- and community-centered approach to learning means that Cub Scouting is truly time well-spent

Who Can Join?

Tiger Cubs (entering first grade or age 7), Cub Scouts (entering second or third grade, or age 8 or 9), Webelos Scouts (entering fourth or fifth grade, or age 10).

How Much Time Is Required?

In most cases, about 4 times per month, depending on the age of the scout. A scout will have a den meeting according to the den schedule, a den go-see-it (or field trip), and a pack meeting held the 1st Tuesday of the month at 5:30pm in Heron Hall. Sometimes, there is an additional pack event held during the month, such as our annual Pinewood Derby, or camping trips.

We Don't Have Enough Volunteers!

How does the Pack work?

All families are asked to help out with the pack in a way that works best for them.
Every leader is a volunteer and we have several opportunities for parents tostep in and help, even if it is only a little bit.  By doing these smallthings, it helps the Pack and your son, in a big way.

Volunteering

You will soon find that the time you spend involved withyour son’s Pack will give you the opportunity to be a “hero” in your son’seyes, and will give you a way to teach volunteers by example. More boys will goon to volunteer later in life when their parents have led by example.

Be assured that the time you spend as an active Scouting parent will be qualitytime with your son, creating memories to cherish for a lifetime!

What do I get out of volunteering?

  • Fun and fellowship with other families, sharing your pride in the boys’ accomplishments.
  • The privilege of helping to enrich and strengthen families.
  • A chance to help boys learn good citizenship and to help shape them into men who have strength of character and are sensitive to the needs of others.
  • The opportunity to help make a difference in the lives of boys as they grow strong in mind and body.
  • A code to live by which will set a worthwhile example for both boys and adults.
  • The satisfaction of being a member of a worldwide movement, and pride in being publicly identified as a part of this organization -- wearing the Scouting uniform is a visible means of showing you believe in and stand up for the ideals and objectives of the Boy Scouts of America.
