Pocket knife or Leatherman type tool (must have totin'chip)
Personal first aid kit (2nd class requirement)
Rain gear (light jacket and pants, or poncho)
Water bottle (full)
Flashlight / headlamp & extra batteries
Matches (weatherproof)
Sun protection (sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm)
Compass and map (troop supplied map)
Bug dope (mosquito head net if possible)
Watch (mandatory for all leaders)
Camp Gear:
Backpack with rain cover
Tent (coordinate with Troop Quartermaster)
Mess kit with cup & utensils
Toiletry kit (soap, toothbrush, small towel, T.P.)
50' paracord or light rope
Small tarp (6 X 8 or similar size)
Large Plastic trash bag
Boy Scout Handbook (pack in ziplock bag)
Sleeping Gear:
Sleeping bag (packed in waterproof bag)
Foam pad or Therm-a-Rest pad
Sleeping clothes (packed in your sleeping bag)
Clothing:
Boy Scout uniform
Hat with visor (wool knit hat also good to have)
Jacket or coat (avoid cotton)
Hiking (water resistant) boots (proper fit is critical)
Socks (2 or 3 extra pair) avoid cotton
Extra pants, shirt, and underwear
Sweater or pullover made of wool or fleece (avoid cotton)
Gloves (leather) used for campfire cooking and work
Optional Gear:
Camera, duct tape, hatchet, camp saw, binoculars, camp shoes, camp chair, GPS, merit badge pamphlet, small day pack, hiking staff / trekking pole, survival kit, notepad & pencil, bandana, small pack shovel.
Packing Tips:
Keep rain gear accessible. Center your heavy gear to balance your backpack, Keep water, snacks, toilet paper, and bug dope in the outer pockets of your backpack. Adjust your backpack to fit you and distribute the bulk of the pack weight to your hips.
