Troop 75 day hike checklist




[  ] Day pack (school type may be OK)

[  ] Pocket knife or Leatherman type tool (kept on you)

[  ] Weatherproof matches (kept on you)

[  ] Personal first aid kit (2nd class requirement)

[  ] Water Bottle, Canteen, or hydration bag (minimum required 32 oz. for most hikes)

[  ] Flashlight or headlamp (may not always be needed but good to have in your pack)

[  ] Extra clothing (socks, sweater) avoid cotton

[  ] Rain gear (light weight rain coat with hood, rain pants, or Poncho)

[  ] Headgear ( Boy Scout hat, weatherproof hat to keep head dry and warm)

[  ] Sun protection ( sunscreen, sunglasses)

[  ] Compass and map (hike leader must know how to use) 2nd class requirement (map provided)

[  ] Trail food (Carbs and proteins; gorp, dehydrated fruit, unsalted almonds, peanuts, or packed lunch)

[  ] Insect repellant (mosquito net is good to have as well)

[  ] Hiking boots (proper fit is critical) NO sneakers

[  ] Jacket (appropriate for the season and conditions)

[  ] light gloves

[  ] Toilet kit (TP, soap, small towel kept in ziplock bag)

[  ] Hiking Staff / trekking pole

[  ] Kitchen trash bag

[  ] Wristwatch (leader mandatory)

Optional gear; hatchet, homemade survival kit, camp saw, signal mirror, 50’ of parachute cord, water purifier, bivy bag, camera, notepad & pencil.

REMEMBER; wet cotton clothes contribute to hypothermia, good boots make for a good hike.
