Troop 20's History

1947 to 2014

Troop 20 was founded in 1947, at St. Theresa's Church, by a group of veterans returning from the war. They had been Scouts in Troop 9, sponsored by Esso Oil Co. in Everett before they went into the service.

Many remained active with Troop 20, and the Aurora District for several years. Some of the adults presently serving with the troop have been active for more than 50 years with the troop, district, and council - in various capacities. Many have served in positions with other units such as, Troops 6, 12, 38, 13, Packs 20, 11, 6, and Crew 20, not to mention many units from surrounding communities.

At this time, there are at least 10 former Scoutmasters still alive.

Troop 20 has had 15 Scouts earn the rank of Eagle Scout since 1978.

At least 7 Scouts have served as members of summer camp staff.

At least 12 Scouts have attended a National Jamboree, and 2 have been to Philmont.

Two Scouts have served on National Jamboree staffs.

Three of our adult leaders have served as members of National Jamboree staffs.

Two leaders have received the Silver Buffalo Award. (The Silver Buffalo Award is the national-level distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America.)

Six leaders have received the District Award of Merit. (The District Award of Merit is the highest recognition a Scouting District can bestow upon an individual)

Two leaders are Eagle Scouts.

Two leaders have Wood Badge Training. (Wood Badge is the highest level of adult Scout leader training available)

Six of our leaders are members of the Order of the Arrow. (The Order of the Arrow (OA) is the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America)

Many of our leaders have served on both the District and Council levels.

If any former scouts have any other information, please email it to the Webmaster.
