We expect families to encourage their sons to develop thrift
by requiring them to earn a reasonable part of their scouting expenses. The troop helps by
putting a portion of the fees and fund raising moneys the boy helped to earn into the
individual boy’s account. The boy can use the money in his account for scouting related
items (summer camp, equipment, outings, etc…). Any money earned through fundraising
(popcorn sales, e-scrip, etc.) in the name of scouting must be used for scouting related
expenses. If a scout transfers to a new troop, upon request, funds remaining in the
individual Boy Account may be transferred to another troop for scouting expenses. Funds
may also be used for payment to a summer camp or other BSA sponsored activity. If a scout
decides to leave the troop, the fundraising balance in the Boy Account will be held in his
name for one calendar year, in the hopes that the scout will return. After a year, the
money will be absorbed into the troop's general fund. The funds will not be disbursed to
the individual.
