Driving Safely

Our Scouts are transported by volunteers drivers like you. We ask our parent and other drivers to review the TROOP 324 DRIVERS PLEDGE below once each year. These are the guidelines approved by the Troop Committee and BSA policies. Scouts under the age of 18 are not allowed to drive on any activity, including to and from meetings.

Troop 324 Drivers Pledge

As a volunteer driver, I agree to abide by the following policies whenever I provide transportation for Troop 324:

-1- I will carry no more passenger than my vehicle’s proper seating capacity.

-2- I will never carry passengers in the back of a truck, in a camper shell, or in a pickup bed (covered or uncovered).

-3- Before placing my vehicle in motion, I will make sure that each passenger is wearing a seat belt. I will stress to my passengers the importance of wearing a seat belt at all times.

-4- Boys will not sit in the front seat if they do not meet vehicle requirements for front airbag.

-5- I will maintain liability insurance coverage on my vehicle at least equal to California State minimums or BSA minimums, whichever is greater (current BSA minimums are $50,000/$100,000/$50,000). You are encouraged to have more.

-6- I will not attempt to travel in a convoy with other vehicles. It is safer to follow a planned route on your own to a pre-arranged rendezvous point.

-7- I will not consume alcoholic beverages while on a Scout activity nor within a reasonable time before driving.

-8- I will refrain from smoking while in a vehicle with scouts

-9- I will return my Scout passengers to their parent(s) or another person approved by the Scout’s parent(s) at the prearranged pick-up location

-10- All drivers must be registered with Troop 324. If I am unable to drive as planned for an outing, I will call the outing Leader or arrange for a suitable substitute driver from among the registered parents and leaders of Troop 324
